About Us

Our History

A non-profit, research organization, Foundation for the Study of Cycles was incorporated on January 10, 1941, by Edward R. Dewey after he discovered coincident cycles in nature and business.

In addition to identifying thousands of verified natural, social, and financial cycles, FSC published Cycles Magazine from 1950 to 1997, held conferences, published reports, funded research, and developed software that revolutionized the way researchers studied cycles.

By focusing on financial markets, where data is accurate and easily accessible, we have spent the last decade refining our methods of cycles detection and cycles applications. Generously backed over the years by notable investors, like W. Clement Stone, Fidelity Funds, Coleman Co., and Paul Tudor Jones, we have been a leading developer of computer software to detect cycles in time series data.

About Us

What We Do

Foundation for the Study of Cycles is dedicated to the study of recurring patterns in the economy, natural and social sciences, and the arts. Hailing from a wide variety of professions, we are scholars, scientists, and nonprofessional investigators, who share a passion for better understanding cycles and how they can be used for the betterment of all mankind.

FSC curates one of the world’s most extensive collections of research and statistical data, which is accessible to all members in our online library. In addition to being part of a supportive community of like-minded cycles enthusiasts, members have access to the Foundation’s first, cloud-based cycles discovery and prediction service. The proof of the existence of such forces will push back the frontiers of knowledge as much as any single discovery that I can think of.

The Case for Cycles (July 1967)

Founder of Foundation for the Study of Cycles (FSC), economist Edward Russel Dewey stumbled upon what would become his passion, the study of cycles, in the early 1930s. He was Chief Economic Analyst for the Department of Commerce carrying out an assignment from President Herbert Hoover to identify the causes of the Great Depression...
