A Holiday Message from the FSC

Today, on the darkest day of the year, Jupiter and Saturn will align in the night sky, creating what will look like a double planet. Although these two planets align every 19.6 years, the closeness of tonight’s alignment is exceptionally rare. The last time they were this close was March 4, 1226.

Some believe that the star of Bethlehem in the story of the Magi was an alignment of these planets. According to the Bible, Jesus was born amid violence, chaos, and political and social unrest. A powerful story of searching for light in dark times, the Magi followed the star until it rested on the place where Jesus was born.

Fast forward to 2020, a time of violence, chaos, and political and social unrest. On the darkest day of the year, Jupiter and Saturn align, casting a bright light on these dark times.

When you look out on the night sky tonight we hope it inspires you to search for light in times of darkness.
